Get great community service work experience at the Public Service Center!

The MIT Public Service Center is seeking a graduate assistant for the Public Service Fellowships and Value-Added Internships programs for the 2009-2010 academic year, with the possibility of extension into summer 2010.

These two programs support MIT students in developing and implementing service projects that build capacity for under-served communities around the world. We are seeking a Graduate Student Assistant to help the program administrator with all aspects of these exciting programs. Precise tasks will depend on the skills and interests of the chosen applicant, but some areas we are definitely looking for help with include:

• Collecting, developing, and making available resources that will add value to students’ service experiences – these might be curricula for teaching science to 8th graders, designs for human-powered washing machines, tools for evaluating project effectiveness, etc, etc
• Liaising with community partners to develop Fellowship and Internship opportunities for students
• Identifying on-the-ground resources to assist the students in their work
• Researching and writing showcase stories about Fellows and Interns that can be used in our public materials and donor reports
• Pitching Fellowship and Internship opportunities to classes and student groups at MIT
• Producing publicity and communication materials for the program
• Planning and implementing events such as reflection dinners, donor-focused dinners, speaker events, orientation events
• Developing risk management protocols
• Reviewing student applications to the programs
• Program evaluation
• And perhaps a little shredding!

Qualifications:

• Comfort with juggling different tasks and working with varied stakeholders
• Excellent writing skills
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
