The Americas


San Francisco, CA


Danny Yadegar (G, Urban Studies and Planning)
Danny will collaborate with the San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA) to evaluate policies it has established around its latest housing program, HOPE SF. A focus will be placed on the financial and social implications of the Authority’s tenant relocation strategy, which will be compared to the strategy employed at other redevelopment projects in the United States. His analysis will provide an opportunity for all involved parties to give anonymous, constructive feedback and policy recommendations may guide HOPE SF's relocation process in the future.


Antigua, Guatemala


Dan Dorsch (2012, Mechanical Engineering)
Dan will be working with Amos Winter, to further develop the Leveraged Freedom Chair (LFC) with staff of the Wheelchair Workshop from Transitions Foundation of Guatemala.  While there, they will interview physically disabled users of the prototype LFC and conduct design reviews necessary to enhance use of this specialized wheelchair in third world countries.

Africa


Tamale, Ghana


Sarah Fletcher (G, Engineering Systems)
Sarah will be working to bring clean water to a rural community near Tamale, Ghana. As part of a team of four students, Sarah will be traveling to Ghana with the non-profit Community Water Solutions, which implements for-profit, sustainable clean water businesses that are maintained and operated by local women. She will spend one week learning water quality testing methods and two weeks implementing a water business in a local village.
