Help develop an integrated energy education curriculum and text book for high school students

Background

These Fellowships will be based out of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and Johnstown, PA.  Dan Hussain is a successful serial entrepreneur who has 3 issued patents in his name, 20 patents pending, and two successful finance-backed companies – KD Secure (www.kdsecure.com) and Pioneer Energy (www.pioneerenergyinc.com).  Jim Ivory is a highly respected high school chemistry teacher in Johnstown, PA who is passionate about science education. A Pennsylvania school district hopes to implement the completed curriculum.

Textbook challenge:

The fellow will work over the summer with MIT alum Dan Hussain, chemistry teacher Jim Ivory and the other co-authors of the book to assist with writing a textbook for integrated energy studies.  The book will be at a level to be understood by anybody above an 8th grade education.  A publisher has already been selected (the owner of the copyright of Napoleon Hill’s book, “Think and Grow Rich”).  The book will touch on the science, engineering, and business aspects of investing in, or starting, an energy company.  The fellow will work closely with Fellow #2 (see below) to make sure the integrated energy curriculum and the book are clearly interrelated.  Most importantly, the book must be written in a way to inspire students to dig deeper and study further, since no single book can cover such a diverse and important topic.

Curriculum challenge:

The fellow will work over the summer with Dan Hussain, Jim Ivory, and Richland School District to assist with developing the integrated energy curriculum for high school students.  The curriculum will touch on the science, engineering, and business aspects of energy, with objective outlook and no bias to any particular energy technology.  The fellow will work closely with Fellow #1 (see above) to make sure the integrated energy curriculum and the textbook are clearly interrelated.  Most importantly, the curriculum must inspire students to dig deeper and study further, since no single course can cover such a diverse and important topic as energy.

Qualifications for both challenges: Interest, background, coursework, or previous internship in energy-related projects
