Reading scores across the country show that kids are struggling with reading. From the results of young students in Cambridge who took the 2006 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System test in the subject of reading and language arts:
Co-sponsored by the MIT Public Service Center and the MIT Student Employment Office, ReachOut recruits, trains, and matches tutors with children identified as needing help with reading.
In addition, ReachOut is a federal work study eligible program. Students who meet the requirements for federal work study funds can be paid for providing this valuable community service.
To find out more about ReachOut, email reachout-staff@mit.edu, stop by the PSC in 4-104, or phone us at 617-253-0742.
