Federal work-study funds come from federal grant money designated for AmericaReads initiatives, such as ReachOut. Established as a response to President Clinton's national challenge to "ensure that all children can read independently by the end of the third grade," ReachOut hopes to make a significant contribution to this goal in the Boston and Cambridge communities.
Those students who are eligible for Federal work-study funds can be paid $13-15 per hour including training and travel time. To be eligible you must have submitted the Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA).
After the ReachOut tutor orientation, you will be notified by email if you are eligible for Federal work-study. You will be asked to fill out the paperwork necessary to get paid. Only students with Federal work-study in their financial aid package can receive payment. All other students participate in the program as volunteers. If you have any questions, contact Linden McEntire, mcentire@mit.edu, 617-253-8065, at the Public Service Center.
