Selection Criteria for Internships and Fellowships

  • Demonstrated potential for sustainable benefit to an under-served community
  • Evidence of strong motivation to carry out the project
  • Demonstrated potential for effective community partner-student relationship
  • Project seems realistic and feasible: scope matches student qualifications, time frame, community partner expertise and input
  • Student demonstrates an appropriate understanding of safety issues and has a realistic safety plan
  • Potential for the student's growth/educational value convincingly explained
  • Application contains sufficient information and makes a good case: complete packet, good proposal, appropriate qualifications, strong faculty recommendation, community partner letter of support

Internships only

  • The project will enable the intern to a) explore public service career possibilities and/or b) gain experience necessary for developing intensive service projects in the future
