Service Learning

Get a grant

Service learning grants support faculty interested in teaching a service learning class. Service Learning Grants are typically under $2500. Larger grants may be offered under special circumstances. Faculty should also consider applying to the Alumni fund and d’Arbeloff fund for Excellence in Undergraduate Education.

Grants can help to pay for expenses related to curricular revision, community outreach, project development, and project implementation. Some common expenses include:

  • travel to local community sites
  • equipment for building projects
  • project materials
  • books and resource materials
  • software

Deadlines

Service Learning Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We encourage you to apply as early as possible. An early application can increase your chances of funding.

Application Guidelines

You should complete and submit the faculty service learning grant cover page and application form to the service learning staff at servicelearning@mit.edu.

Requirements

Grant recipients must submit a short report and any relevant photographs showing how the funds were spent and what they accomplished with the funding. Funds that are not used in the time allotted will revert back to the service learning account. Grant recipients must also agree to participate in our evaluation process.
