In April 2016, MIT celebrates the 100th anniversary of its move to Cambridge. To commemorate the Centennial and celebrate the community organizations that are committed to the wellbeing of the Cambridge and Boston communities, we are organizing an Institute-wide volunteer event.
Celebrate 100 years in Cambridge through community service
Join your MIT peers in a one-day volunteering opportunity celebrating the 100th anniversary of MIT’s move to Cambridge.
CityDays is a great way for living groups, lab partners, athletic teams, other student groups, and individual volunteers to give back to our local community by engaging with our neighbors and volunteering together. We secure service placements and provide logistical support for all participants.
Open to students, faculty, alumni, and staff. For more information contact email@example.com.
Work out with InnerCity Weightlifting
Tuesday, April 19, 1-2 pm
Spots available on a first-come-first-serve basis; open to all levels
Register with ICW
As part of CityDays: MIT2016, spend an hour working out with InnerCity Weightlifting (ICW) and support their work in reducing local youth violence. ICW works to reduce youth violence by connecting proven-risk young people with new networks and opportunities, including meaningful career tracks in and beyond personal training. ICW uses the gym to replace segregation and isolation with economic mobility and social inclusion, disrupting the system that leads to urban street violence. Have a great workout, learn about efforts to fight youth violence in our community, and support the work of ICW! By registering through CityDays, you will be able to try out ICW for free. Sign up here!
CityDays: MIT2016 is hosted by the Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center as part of MIT’s Together In Service initiative.
Ask Me About...
Service day: Tuesday, April 19
The deadline to register at an Ask Me About station has passed. We invite you to sign up for one of the other volunteer opportunities available on April 19 through the registration link above.
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of MIT’s move to Cambridge with the Cambridge Science Festival to engage the public with MIT’s fascinating research, student activities, and people. Help Cambridge get to know MIT better by volunteering at an Ask Me About station in one of Cambridge’s busy squares.
Bring a prop or image about your research, studies, or hobbies at MIT, and join your peers in answering questions about your selected topic. Maybe you are an expert in biology, chemistry, or computer science. Maybe you are a video game whiz or know a lot about experimental vehicles. You can propose one or more topics, and you can sign up as an individual volunteer or with a group.
We will choose four overarching themes and invite you and your peers to talk with the public about your specific topic at an Ask Me About station in one of Cambridge’s squares.
Open to students, faculty, and staff. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
CityDays: MIT2016 -- Ask Me About is hosted by the Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center as part of the MIT’s Together In Service initiative and in collaboration with the Cambridge Science Festival.
CityDays is a series of one-day volunteer opportunities for all members of the MIT community. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to engage with the Cambridge and greater Boston community by devoting a few hours to volunteer with CityDays throughout the year. In conjunction with MIT’s mission, the CityDays campaign aims to work for the “betterment of humankind” by connecting those who are a part of the MIT community with local organizations who need volunteers.
CityDays is a great fit for those who would like to give back and learn about the community, but who may not have time for a long-term volunteer commitment. The Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center handles all of the logistics for the day, including a meal, travel, and service placements. All you have to do is sign up and show up with an ethic for service. Participants may sign up as individuals or as groups. We encourage student groups to utilize CityDays as a pre-planned day of service.
Upcoming CityDays events are on January 19, February 20, and April 19!
