Through service learning, faculty all over MIT are adding educational depth and breadth to their classes and serving communities worldwide by incorporating public service work into their coursework. Service learning grants are available to assist faculty in making service learning available to their students.
Service UROP and IROP projects enable students to participate in faculty-guided research that also helps communities in need.
Becoming a faculty mentor or resource for students working with disadvantaged communities is a wonderfully efficient way to build community capacity while contributing significantly to the education of an MIT student. Please let us know if you are willing to serve as a contact or mentor for a student interested in working with a community or subject area that you know.
Learn about our new Broader Impact Initiative inspired by the National Science Foundation requirement that grant-funded research include a public outreach component.
