I went to play cosplay human chess at the Harvard Anime Society on November 20, 2004. It was a hilarious event! People were really friendly and I got a lot of positive comments about my costume. (I went in V2.1 of my Cloud Strife Final Fantasy VII Advent Children costume.) My sis came wearing my Integra Hellsing costume, which looked great on her, and Rydia came as Lina Inverse. Her costume has shaped up a lot, we finally sewed the trim onto her Dress and made a double layered band so that the dress didn't show through her yellow top. And, she bought an awesome wig and made belts. Anyway, a lot of the pics Jason and I took came out a little dark or blurry due to poor lighting. But here's the ones that turned out not too bad! Click on the thumbnails for the whole picture.

The first few moves: Totoro and Kankuro as pawns. The board had pretty small squares, but that just encourages you to get to know your fellow pieces :) I was the King's bishonen on the white side.

The sand nin start stepping out, Gaara getting the next more on the black side. We had chunin exam teams on both sides :)

Rydia as Lina and Sean as Xellos from Slayers. Rydia got to cast Dragon Slave as her kill move on him, it was awesome. Sean's staff lights up, which is really cool.

Another pic of Lina and Xellos, throwing the victory sign. To quote a famous holiday card: "May victory grace you this holiday season!"

JJ as Asuka. I wish I had started cosplaying when I was her age, then I'd have a million costumes by now ;) Her dialog as Asuka was hillarious.

Me as Cloud, Lara as Aeris, and Nick as Sephiroth. We had a big prop comparison, and my buster was longer than his Masamune, though I think my sword is a little excessive :)

I think this pic is great. I wish I had more posed battle pics. Lara's expression is perfect!

This pic is also great. Cloud and Aeris staring inro each others' eyes.

And of course, the yaoi pic. I really liked Nick's costume, his shoulder armor was a lot cooler than mine. I think he said it was hydrostone, which sounds painful to work with.

Xellos and Belldandy. I actually met Lisa at the first Anime Boston in 2003, when she was wearing this costume! It's a really sweet costume, she's made really awesome jewelry and such for it.

Group pic of a few of the players. Maybe it's the Yale group? I was surprised but most of the folks at the event were actually not from Harvard. The Yale contingent was big!

Cactuar hat guy and Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Tylor was hillarious on the board, now I think I need to see the anime!
