Session 206

In which our heroes ...

Orhan 1 Day 36 TE 6063

Boy, we seem stuck.

Well, we backtrack and start poking around.

There doesn't seem to be any way out, but there are some doors. Of course, at the end of the corridor of door is a one way illusionary wall. We decide to join him in the trap. Eventually, we make it through to the four way intersection we found long ago... Leading to the room with the green slime. We fight. It loses. We head back. We make our way back to the ochre jelly room. Alynna stirs one of the vats with her 10 foot pole. Oathar detects the other half of the key in the vat. The vat bubbles and hisses a bit, and when she removes the pole, it's shorter by a foot.

We spend the rest of the day trying to figure out how to get a key out a giant vat of potent acid. After a long time, we send an earth elemental into the vat to deal with things.

Then we head back down to the door. Sadly, after another day's worth of fussing around, we feel too weak to brave the final room. So we camp outside of it.

Orhan 1 Day 37 TE 6063

The time of our final confrontation (yeah right) with the demi-lich Acerak (or his imposter) has come! We fuse the two halves of the key together, and a stone slab slides away revealing a vault with absolutely nothing in the room. It's empty. But there's a tiny keyhole the size of the other key we found and thought was useless. Yay! We buff like mad, and then we try again with our cylindrical key.

Yup, the chamber appears. Mithril vault with a door that has a pull ring in the center. Haeraan pulls it open. Inside we see treasure and an evil altar with dust and dirt and the gem eyed skull. The treasure consists of gems, potions, scrolls, misc magic items, and three swords. We grab some dust, and lo the skull rises up and we start slaying. It tries a horrific abominable absolution on Oathar, who resists only with fate points. We fight further.

It seems to unleash its disasterous beam in normal and at the end of the round. Oh how the fate points flow. Flow flow flow. They sure flow.

We fight on.

He blasts us some more. We spell another half dozen fate points into the field.

Finally, Imre smashes the skull with a well placed Holy crit.

Among the loot are two cursed swords.

The good part of the loot!

  1. 970 gold in misc gems
  2. 1 10,000 gp gem
  3. 1 50,000 gp gem (emerald)
  4. 1 100,000 gp black opal !!!
  5. 12 potions
  6. 6 scrolls
  7. 1 ring
  8. 1 rod
  9. 1 staff
  10. a cube
  11. an orb
  12. an abstract ivory carving
  13. 1 sword

There's also two jewels in the eye sockets and 6 diamonds in the teeth of the jaw. It's horribly cursed. No really, more cursed than that. Really, it's that cursed. It casts a random curse on its possessor.

Having done the tomb, we're supposed to do the city that waits and then the fortress... Doom!

We give the souls trapped in the skull to the angel of death.

Next time, we head deeper.
