In which our heroes ...
Orhan 2 Day 40 TE 6055
We fret about getting the horses back. Oathar, Haeraan and Alynna stay
to guard the caravans while the others head back for horses and drivers.
After waiting for a bit, a guy with a spear appears over the hilltop.
Actually, it's one of the guys we fought earlier. Hmm, this must be the
rally point for the ones who escaped the first battle. Oathar sleeps him
at range. We send Haeraan to pick him up and add him to our pile of prisoners.
When Haeraan gets to him however, he finds that there's another guy heading
in too. Haeraan summons Alynna to his position. Alynna and Haeraan lie
in wait and then ambush the approaching bad guy.
Tradewind notices that many more are on the way. Hmmm. Haeraan goes to
scout them out and suddenly sees a large marching column of the enemy
approaching. He heads back and informs the rest of us. Hmm, we discuss
how to delay a whole column of the enemy long enough for our people to
get here and take the wagons. Kyrik shows up then as the lead element
of our reinforcements. We brief him and he heads back to hurry the guys.
Oathar summons some elementals and sends them to harass the bad guys.
The column deploys into a line and the lead earth elemental takes some
damage and then 'splodes on them. The second tries but is killed. The
air elemental splodes on them and their healers start working on things.
They deploy scouts. We delay their scouts. Haeraan starts praying. Charon
is high in the sky though and suddenly, all of the horses we were going
to stick to the carts run off! Argh! Haeraan sorts stuff quickly into
good stuff and not, and the drivers pick stuff up and start running with
it.
Oathar keeps up delaying tactics and keeps them off balance while the
rest of the party deals with the evac. Eventually, we manage to flee.
It's a very messy complicated doomful fleeing, but we do eventually escape
with half of the stuff. There are ambushes and deceptions, running battles
and firefights.
We get back to our convoy and move it along. While resting for the night,
Kyrik and Imre, on the first watch see a strange breeze from our enemies
direction an eerie high pitched scream and a pillar of read light springs
up in the distance towards Charon. Leaving Oathar asleep to keep his power
points recovering, the rest of the party heads towards to investigate.
Wandering around out there, they encounter what seems to be a large flying
lizard. It's pretty far up though, so there's little to be done. Imre
covers our camp with illusions. The lizard flies around, and circles then
heads back towards their camp.
Strangely, the lizard comes back with a white flag. While our caravan
starts leaving we go to talk to the spokesman.
"I speak on behalf of Tavar, priestess of Akalatan. You fought well,
but if you continue you will not escape. We give you a chance to survive.
You must turn over the mage, and we will allow you and your caravan to
leave peacibly." Ahnta asks for guarantees that they will keep their
word. "You have our pledge and we will return some of your items."
and "The mage shows great power and will not be harmed as long as
he reveals his secrets to our mages."
We pull back to discuss the offer. Imre casts the cards trying to figure
out what it is that they got for their sacrifice to Charon. Imre believes
that they were predicting the future. Something about our movements and
actions. Imre suspects that they mostly know where we're going to go.
Are they trustworthy? Are they not? What to do? Imre casts several divinations.
Haeraan casts several divinations. We learn almost nothing. We're certain
that if we give Oathar up, we'll save the caravan. If we don't, it will
still be possible to save the caravan but it will be more difficult.
In the end it is decided. Oathar goes with them and the party watches
him fly off with the lizard rider into the distance.
