In which our heroes ...
Orhan 1 Day 33 TE 6056
Well, that was exciting. But the next morning the whole get beat on by
a pile of orc thing seems much better. Imre goes over the bodies once
more and finds an evil magic skull cap of control undead. Haeraan smashes
it at Imre's request. Meanwhile Alynna asks Oathar to examine her ring.
Why look, it's a ring of emotion tampering. "Oh! Perhaps that's why I
slept with him the second and third time." Everyone leaves that alone,
but Oathar makes sure she doesn't wear the ring any more. Strange double-tailed
scorpions start coming out of the sand to eat the bodies. We decide it's
time to leave. We ride off.
Orhan 1 Day 37 TE 6056
That night, Oathar and Alynna are on watch. A giant evil glowing area
starts to approach. How strange. They wake everyone up. As it approaches,
it seems to be a point source of some type. We prepare. After about five
minutes it's close enough to see. It seems to be terrain following. It's
a big glowing humanoid shape coming towards us. Oathar starts laying down
an circle of protection against undead.
Haeraan thinks it's bigger than class six. It's also rapidly changing
between forms. Like it's many different people.
It arrives. It stops before us and starts wailing. Then it calls out:
"Language we don't understand" So Haeraan tells it to leave
this place or be put to rest. It doesn' tunderstand so Alynna tries in
Linaer. Then it turns into an elf and says "The living are not permitted
here, this is the land of the dead!" We ask it for a message. They
were cursed by their own arrogance apparently. He points to Kyrik and
says, "You, our descendants should have known better." Kyrik
tells it we are just passing through.
We argue with them for a while. Kyrik switches to another ancient language
and a strange man appears from the ghost. He has 6 fingers on each hand.
He's not as stable as the rest. "Who summons my memory." Kyrik
claims that he does. "You are but a man. Why do you disturb me?"
"You seek to avoid the mistakes of the past?" He shows us a
space battle near the sixth planet of the system. It shakes in the vision
and great cracks appear on the surface. "Fool!" We then get
an image of a woman in front of a throne. Around her neck is a chain of
iron with the shadowstone set into it. "Fool! Leave the mistakes
of the past be!"
"No, our torture will become your torture." We attack!
Alynna chops it! Haeraan chopes it!
The ghost turns into a woman down on her knees weeping. We pause.
Haeraan prays for guidance and a beam of light descends from Orhan. Standing
in fron tof Haeraan is now a tall woman, who Haeraan identifies as a divine
servant of Rianne. Her name is Nialla, the Tender of Graves. She's 12
feet tall and dressed in robes. She takes the ghost away, "Come,
it is time." Left behind is a tomb that sort of faded in. It has
the carved image of the woman ghost on it, and a headstone that reads
Zor. Everything around gets smoothed out and then hardens.
Strangely, Alynna and Haeraan resist channeling. Alynna and Haeraan feel
quite guilty for whacking the ghost. Very guilty. Perhaps some atonement
is necessary for each of them.
Orhan 1 Day 38 TE 6056
We hang around the memorial.
Orhan 1 Day 42 TE 6056
Haeraan has a dream which he thinks means we shouldn't take anything
from the tombs other than what we'v eexplicitly come for. He also has
a dream about walking along a path. His path has branches. The side path
has a blue glow which leads to a griffin trapped in a noose. The Griffin
is lying on the ground trapped, so he loosens the noose and heals the
griffin. Then the Griffin flies off towards a mountain peak and lands
up there. Then he heads back to his main path.
We take that as a good sign.
We arrive at the tombs. There's a huge door made of Eog set in a stone
portaco.
We fuss with the inscrutible door for a while. It's Eog, so it sucks
up Essense, but Haeraan thinks he can teleport us thrrough it with his
channeling powers.
Haeraan short doors through hoping for the best. Inside, he finds a handle
and pushes the door open. We head in, and close the door again. There
is white eog on the inside of the door, and black eog everywhere else.
We explore. There are deathtraps all over the place. Or at least that's
the theory. We head a few hundred steps down and things keep going. Gosh.
Lot's of steps. A thousand steps. The first 999 steps are fine. The last
one is trapped.Sigh.
There are lot's of passages in Ancient Zorian everywhere. No one can
read them. We proceed.
We find a giant griffin statue before three doors, presumably one for
each royal line. We decide to follow the glowing door as we think our
side quest might be worth doing now. Haeraan tries to pick teh lock and
fails so the Griffen exhales a Stun Cloud. We all Merge into the floor
till it passes. Haeraan shortdoors through and opens it from the other
side. We head in. Creepily, the doors at the end of the hallway swing
open as we approach. It's filled with an elemental puzzle. Actually, it's
an elemental essense focus. Oathar thinks it's great.
In the next chamber, Kyrik looks at a circle of immolation and fries
himself. (5 E crits). Imre heals him. Other symbols we encounter include
the ever popular Void Gate.
Then we fight some wraiths. They are smote. We get a ring. It's some
sort of platinum ring with saphire and a stylized eye. It's the ring of
Andrax. Imre won't let Oathar try to attune to it. Imre is mean. Bad Imre.
We kill some skeletons.
Then we decide to camp for the night.
