The MLOG Impact: Alumni Profiles
"I am very glad I didn't take it easy," says Esme Fantozzi (MLOG 2003) of her time in the Master of Engineering in Logistics program at MIT. "Now I can use those tools I learned so well." The 35-year-old MLOG graduate is currently putting those tools to good use at Shell Lubricants in Houston, Texas. Fantozzi works as a Senior Analyst for Supply Chain Network Design - a position she landed as an MLOG student during a career fair at MIT last winter. Though she has worked just half a year with Shell Lubricants, Fantozzi is already part of a team that supports high-level strategic decisions in the company. "I'm presented with strategic decisions that need to made, and I apply my skills to solve those scenarios, which are one or more years out." Most of Fantozzi's projects at Shell Lubricants are kept confidential. But as a generic illustration, she says if the company needs to optimize a certain product line, her team would be responsible for deciding how to tackle the problem, then modeling the problem and finally optimizing with specific software. "My position is extremely interesting," Fantozzi says. "I am exposed to high-level decisions. Therefore, I can really see where the company is headed, and that's exciting." So exciting, that Fantozzi plans to stay in Texas for awhile, even though her husband is currently living in North Carolina. "We both were offered amazing job opportunities that we just couldn't turn down." Fantozzi adds it's a job opportunity she would have never been offered without the MLOG program. "MLOG was just nine months, but I used every second to do as much as I could, as well as I could. And it really paid off." As for the future, Fantozzi says after being exposed to the field of supply chain management, she cannot ever imagine leaving it. "I went to MLOG, so that I could get involved with the supply chain. Now that I am involved, I am happy with my choice and I'm going to stay." You can contact Esme Fantozzi at efantozzi@alum.mit.edu.
