Graduate Students Initiate Institute-Wide Supply Chain Management Club
Derrick Redding, MLOG 2002

Students from the Master of Engineering in Logistics program (MLOG), and from the Sloan School of Management, have banded together to initiate an Institute-wide Supply Chain Management Club, open to both graduate and undergraduate students of all disciplines.

Supported by the Center for Transportation & Logistics, and advised by Center Director Yossi Sheffi, the club will sponsor a guest speaker series, a series of visits to local industry sites, knowledge exchanges with other universities, and alumni outreach.

Co-presidents of the club are MLOG candidate Dennis Duckworth and MBA candidate Nhat-So Lam of Sloan. According to Duckworth, "We are really impressed with Professor Sheffi's excitement and drive, and with the Center's faculty and industry experience. Their expertise has driven
MIT's dominance in the logistics and supply chain management field for years, and we're looking forward to helping spread this expertise throughout the MIT campus."

"We have witnessed a considerable increase in the level of interest for this topic within the Sloan community," added Lam, "because of the increasingly important role supply chain plays in today's business world. Sloan students are thrilled with the opportunity to collaborate with CTL because by combining the strengths of the MLOG, MBA and LFM programs, what we can achieve together will be boundless. We have very exciting year ahead of us."

Already the club has a roster of over 50 Sloan and MLOG students, and that membership is expected to grow after their kick-off meeting on October 2. That meeting will feature presentations by the newly-elected officers and by Dr. Jonathan Byrnes, Senior Lecturer.
