The
Write A Play Before the End of the World Program does have a deadline
of December 31, 1999, primarily in the sense that after that date the
name of the program probably will change. However, our search for new
plays is ongoing and interested parties should expect a response from
ERP within 4-5 weeks of submission. It is not a contest with a winner
but rather an effort to involve people in the creative and empowering
process of making plays. ERP is particularly interested in work that
is fun, imaginative, and which addresses the concerns of youth and other
marginalized groups. ERP is NOT terribly in need of plays which rely
on stereotype, elitism, or conventionality (i.e., if someone wants to
submit this new adaptation of Romeo & Juliet that they just wrote, they
should make sure first that it is pretty darn amazing). Young people
and musicians are especially encouraged to submit, even if the play
currently is just in the sketch or idea stage. Some stipends may be
available to selected playwrights upon reading or production. Please
send all submissions (with SASE if the author desires) to:Emerald Rain
Productions, 1678 Shattuck Ave. Ste. 186 Berkeley CA 94709, USA
