Major in Music
- XXI-M (Bachelor of Science in Music)
Requirements: (180 units required for a single major beyond the General Institute Requirements); 270 units beyond the General Institute Requirements for a double major. These must include eleven music subjects, totaling at least 120 units:
- Four in THEORY/COMPOSITION (21M301, 21M302, 21M303, and one elective)
- Three in MUSIC HISTORY/LITERATURE (21M220,
one elective in World Music (21M.291-294) and one elective in Western Music (21M.215, 21M.223J-284)
- Two terms of PERFORMANCE (21M.400s) - 12 units total)
- The Senior Seminar in Music (21M500) - 12 units
- One more ELECTIVE in theory/composition, history/literature, and/or performance to be selected in consultation with the major advisor - 12 units
- UNRESTRICTED ELECTIVES, which need not be music subjects - 60 units
Note 1: Qualified students may with faculty approval, substitute three full years of 21M480, Advanced Music Performance, and a senior recital for the two terms of performance and two elective subjects.
Note 2: Only 26 units of music subjects can ordinarily be used to satisfy the Humanities GIRs.
