MIT Emerson Music Performance Program for Private Lesson Study, 2004-2005

21M.410 (undergraduate) or 21M.515 (graduate): Vocal Repertoire and Performance

For the singer and/or pianist interested in collaborative study of solo vocal performance. An historical study of the repertoire includes listening assignments of representative French, German, Italian, and English works as sung by noted vocal artists of the genre. Topics include diction as facilitated by the study of the International Phonetic Alphabet; performance and audition techniques; study of body awareness and alignment through the Alexander Technique and yoga. Mandatory participation in a departmental ensemble for vocalists. Required for Emerson Music Vocal Scholars and Fellows. Open to Emerson Piano Scholars in lieu of 21M445 or 21M451. Admission to others by audition. Earns 6 units.
