Exec Position Descriptions
Provides the overall mission, direction and supervision for the MUBA exec. He/she is the official representative of MUBA to any other organization and to MIT. The president also presides over meetings, determines when meetings are held, delegates tasks to other officers and maintains a complete and up-to-date Presidents file that will include a copy of the current MUBA by-laws and the current MUBA budget.
Performs the duties of the President in his/her absence, serves as representative to regular ASA (Association of Student Activities) meetings, coordinates the preparation of all awards applications and records the minutes of exec meetings.
Creates a working budget with the exec board, processes refunds for event supplies, communicates budget updates and money matters to the exec board, creates and maintains an updated calendar of MUBA events and reserves all necessary rooms for meetings.
The Publicity Chair handles all publicity-related items, including creating brochures, posters and e-mails to promote MUBA events. In addition, the Publicity Chair works with the Webmaster to advertise events on the MUBA website and to keep materials up to date. Finally, he/she will be in charge of MUBA's Campus Preview Weekend outreach. NOTE: experience with formatting software (Photoshop, etc.) is recommended.
Acts as MUBA's primary liason to the individual academic departments (Biology, Chemistry, Biological Engineering, BCS, etc.), faculty and students. The Course Representative is responsible for interacting with departments for events and funding, along with mentoring freshmen considering the respective majors.
The Webmaster updates and maintains the official MUBA website. He/she takes photos at events, maintains an up-to-date listing of current UROP openings and determines new ways for MUBA to connect with the greater MIT community through the internet. NOTE: experience with web design/programming is recommended.
Exec Elections take place typically in the latter half of the Spring Semester, when our Spring Semester General Body Meeting (GBM) takes place in April. Exec Position descriptions and applications are sent out to the MUBA general e-mail list, various course e-mail lists, and others. Applications are sent to the current president, and the candidates provide their platform during the GBM. The election takes place at the GBM and results are announced by the president after votes are counted and reviewed.
If a position opens up during the school year, the position will either be filled via election/nomination by exec, or the position will remain open until the next GBM. During this time, the open position's duties will be covered by other exec members.
Any MIT undergraduate student may apply for an exec position.
