MITMUNC

This coming school year (2008-2009), MIT Model United Nations will host its first annual high school conference, MITMUNC (MIT Model United Nations Conference). This conference will be different from other high school conferences in that we will be focusing on committees that deal with a scientific or technological issue, in order to best use the strengths of MIT students. This conference will allow MIT students to teach high schoolers about international policy related to their field of expertise, and will be uniquely tailored each year to reflect the interests of our staff – for example, if you’re thinking about studying Nuclear Engineering, you might want to serve as the chair for the International Atomic Energy Association, or if you’re interested in medicine, you could address international health issues in the World Health Organization.

All majors are welcome, and MUN experience is not a prerequisite for getting involved (though if you’ve done MUN, that experience would be especially valuable). Above all, we want people who are interested in science policy and international issues, and are excited about sharing their knowledge with high school students. For more information about the conference and how to get involved, please contact Bonnie Krenz, Secretary-General for MITMUNC 2009.
