CAMBRIDGE, MA - Beginning April 20th, the streets of Cambridge will come alive once again in a celebration of science and technology. The Cambridge Science Festival, presented by the MIT Museum, will take place April 20 - 29, 2012 and will highlight the excitement of discovery and the impact of science and technology in all of our lives. Public events, activities, demonstrations and performances during the ten-day festival will take place at the MIT Museum and in a variety of locations throughout Cambridge.

The MIT Museum kicks off the festival on Friday, April 20th with a free day at the Museum. Hands- on activities and demonstrations begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. that night. The dayís programs will feature video game developers, marine mammal scientists from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and interactive activities for all ages. Visitors may also view the Museumís newest exhibition, Rivers of Ice, the Vanishing Glaciers of the Greater Himalaya, an exhibition featuring the impressive photography of renowned mountain climber and adventurer, David Breashears.

During the 10 days of the Cambridge Science Festival, the MIT Museum will host a wide range of activities for young people and adults including gallery demonstrations, workshops and tours. New this year is a daily lunchtime talk, "Culinary Chemistry" Ė bring your lunch and have fun with food as you explore the science behind some of your favorite tastes including chocolate, artisan bread and fizzy water.

For the 21+ crowd this year's new evening is "Science for Sinners". This fun "speed-geeking" night complete with adult beverages and sinful snack as you rotate through a series of flash presentations by area researchers and scientists that explore the seven deadly sins from a scientific standpoint.

"What better place to celebrate all things scientific than right here in Cambridge, home to many of the greatest scientists and engineers in the world," said festival founder and MIT Museum director John Durant. "No place else on Earth has the concentration of superstar researchers, science and math-based companies and big ideas. The Cambridge Science Festival is a way for the whole community to get involved with the globally significant work going on all around us. Plus, itís a lot of fun!"
