Making a group reservationAvailability is limited. Please make reservations at least two weeks in advance. Groups that arrive at the Museum for self-guided gallery visits without reservations will not receive the group discount and may be turned away at the door if the Museum is too crowded. Workshops and guided tours cannot be accommodated without reservations. Fill in and submit the online Reservation Request Form. 2. When the request has been reviewed, you will be contacted by the Receptionist to complete your reservation. 3. Following a confirmed reservation, you will be mailed a Confirmation Packet. Please review your reservation details carefully and contact the Receptionist if anything is incorrect. Reservations must be made at least 2 weeks in advance. During the spring and summer busy season, we recommend that reservations be made as far in advance as possible as we fill up quickly. The reservations desk is staffed between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The Receptionist can be contacted by phone at 617.253.6852 or email at bmblais@mit.edu. Group visit types and pricingThe Museum offers self-guided gallery visits, workshops and guided gallery tours. See descriptions for pricing. Workshops and tours are subject to a $25 booking fee (waived when reservation is made more than two weeks in advance). Group reservations are required for all groups regardless of the age of the participants. Visit hoursSelf-guided gallery visits: M-F, Sa, Su during normal Museum hours. Earliest arrival time is 10:00 a.m., latest is 3:30 p.m. Visits to the Museum last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. Workshops and guided tours: M-F during normal Museum hours. Earliest arrival time is 10:00 a.m., latest is 3:00 p.m. Workshops and guided tours last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. PaymentThe Museum accepts cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, checks (made payable to MIT Museum) and Purchase Orders. Groups paying by Purchase Order must make arrangements at least one week in advance with the Museum’s Receptionist. Passes and discount coupons will not be accepted as payment for group visits. One person must make payment for the entire group. Full payment is taken at the time of arrival at the Admissions Desk or in advance of the visit. Unfortunately, the MIT Museum cannot issue any refunds. Please make sure that all payments are for the correct number of visitors. Financial assistanceGrants for field trip expenses are available through Target Field Trip Grants and the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Big Yellow School Bus Fund. The MIT Museum does not administer these grants. ChaperonesOne chaperone above the age of 18 is required for every 8 children. Chaperones are required for all K-12 groups. The Museum is not recommended for preschool-age groups; however, 1 chaperone is required for every 5 preschoolers. CancellationsNotify the Receptionist immediately by phone at 617.253.6852. Lunch optionsThe Museum does not have a designated lunchroom or dining facilities on site. We recommend that groups eat at the cafeterias located in the MIT Student Center or the Stata Center, both in walking distance of the Museum – see FAQs for details. Lockers and coatroomsLockers and coatrooms are available for the storage of personal items. The Museum is not responsible for items left in storage facilities. Please see our teacher resources page for more information. ParkingBuses can drop-off and pick-up visitors at the main entrance to the Museum on the corner of Front Street and Massachusetts Avenue. The Museum has no bus parking, but metered street parking may be available. The Museum has limited designated parking for minivans and smaller vehicles – see FAQs for details. Have questions?
