Leaves

Connors experimented with stiffened cloth, such as wool and polar fleece, plaster fabrications, and stiffened silk leaves, but some of these objects were not stable enough or simply looked too unnatural in the laser's light. Bob Giese, a papermaker from the Boston Museum School, provided a solution by fabricating handmade paper into tropical foliage. Connors undertook significant research--both in libraries and in greenhouses-- to learn about the tropical plant life on which these models would be based.
