Emmanuel Brune (1836-1886)

Ware met Emmanuel Brune during his European travels in 1867, and it is likely that Brune made a gift of several drawings, including those below, to Ware's Collection. Occupying a central position on the walls of the Department of Architecture's design studio, Brune's powerful depiction of ancient monuments provided visual inspiration and potential models for the students. The graphic strength of his drawings, such as the "Cori Temple," lies in its skilled monochrome rendering, with meticulous shades and shadows placed against a dark ground and depicted on a large scale.
