French Drawings

(Joseph) Albert Tournaire

After Ware's departure for Columbia University, MIT's Department of Architecture continued his policy of acquiring drawings for the Study Collection. Albert Tournaire's large scale drawing "Forum de Trajan" is representative of this continuing interest in building the Collection. While depicting similar subject matter as earlier Grand Prix de Rome winners, these later drawings demonstrated changes in technique, such as placing the object against a light background, not seen in the earlier work of architect's like Emmanuel Brune.
