Garo Saraydarian teaches the musicianship labs at MIT. He received his M.M. with a concentration in jazz studies from Berklee College of Music and the Boston Conservatory, certification from the Kodaly Music Institute at the New England Conservatory, and B.A. in music from the University of California, Riverside. His interest in music began with dual study of the violin and trombone. Saraydarian has performed with the Fenway Jazz Art Orchestra, Dig Trio, Phil Wilson’s Rainbow Band, and the Ayn Inserto Jazz Orchestra including performances at the Caramoor Jazz Festival and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Recently he has moved into exploring the oud and Karnatak music. He is currently interested in researching historical, cognitive, and cross-cultural pedagogical methodologies in music education. Saraydarian is also a music educator at the Vinson-Owen school in Winchester, recently one of eight schools in Massachusetts to be named a national blue-ribbon school
by the United States Department of Education.
