Endicott Falls to MIT in Five-Gamer

2/24/2003 -BEVERLY, Mass. - In the five-game match, Endicott College fell to 13th-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology 30-26, 24-30, 30-24, 32-34, 10-15.

Despite the loss, Endicott set new school records for assists, digs and kills by the team in a five-game match. Junior captain Pablo Baez (San Juan, PR) set the new school record for assists, with 64. Playing a terrific match, Baez also contributed 5 kills (5-0/10), 11 digs and three blocks to the Gull's efforts.

MIT was led by senior Ramon Partida (Guaynabo, PR) who sparked the team with 11 kills in the second game alone. Along with 15 digs, Partida finished the night hitting .340. Also leading the way to the MIT victory were Dan Roy (senior, Los Angeles, Calif.) and junior Kabir Mukaddam (Cambridge, Mass.). Roy hit .427 for the match while Mukaddam had seven digs. MIT faces Wentworth tomorrow night at home at 7 p.m. and sixth-ranked Roger Williams at Roger Williams on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Three Endicott players had double digit kills in the match. Sophomore Jeremy Fontaine (Belchertown, Mass.) had 19 kills, followed closely by junior Brandon Ecker (New Orleans, La.) with 16. Ecker finished first on the team in hitting percentage as he hit .433 (16-3/30). Freshman Lloyd Douglass (Beverly, MA) had a career best 15 kills in 27 attempts on the night.

On the defensive side, Dan Green (sophomore, Tempe, Ariz.) took over the second place spot on the Endicott digs in a match record book with 21. Other dig leaders include Ecker with 13, Fontaine with 11, and sophomore Russ Friedland (Mansfield, Conn.) with 10. Green and Baez led the team in blocking with three apiece.

The Gulls return to NECVA play in a week when they travel to Wentworth for a 7 p.m. match.
