The Spatial Database Engine is "a high performance, object
oriented database that employs a true client/server architecture,
combined with a set of software services to perform fast, efficient
spatial operations and management of large, shared, geographic data".

It consists of "a multithreaded spatial server engine and client API
functions. These components provide developers with the ability to
perform seamless integration and management of spatial and tabular data
in a cooperative and shared database environment".
