To develop a wide range of semiconductor membrane technologies, and apply them to demonstrate a silicon chip containing an array of femtosecond lasers with low-threshold (zero in principle) and extremely high-repetition rate (> 100GHz for the fundamental mode). We will also demonstrate waveguides of extraordinarily large dispersion. By tuning the wavelength, accurate true-time delays up to 100 ns may be achieved on a silicon chip. This could lead to board-level, portable phased-array antennas (PAA) that can significantly improve the RF communications among all military units, including jet fighters, other aircrafts, vehicles and even individual soldiers. |
