Xianfan Xu

Xianfan Xu is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, with a courtesy appointment as a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.  He obtained his M.S. (1991) and Ph.D. (1994) degrees in Mechanical Engineering, minor in Materials Science, from the University of California, Berkeley.  His current research includes ultrafast and nanoscale optics and their applications in many engineering fields, including phtonics.  He is the recipient of the National Science Foundation Faculty CAREER Award (1996) and the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2000).  He was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2006, and a Fellow of SPIE in 2010.
