WEST MILL CREEK: HOW TO OFFSET OR PREVENT GREEN GENTRIFICATION

During the second part of the course, we will apply the lessons learned from readings, fieldwork, and cases to the task of developing proposals and an action plan for the West Mill Creek Playground and Recreation Center and surrounding neighborhood. You may choose to work individually or in a group.

We will proceed in a series of discussions and work sessions, culminating in a presentation and discussion in the penultimate class meeting, followed by reflection on the semester in the final class. To make the most of the four work sessions, it is imperative to come to class prepared to discuss your work-in-progress.

April 12. Environmental Improvement and Community Development: Lessons from Cases

Come to this class prepared to present the case that you chose. The discussion will draw out lessons for our work in Philadelphia. Class presentation may be in Powerpoint or from a pdf. The file must be posted on Canvas by Monday, April 12 at 8AM. Final report is dues online by 5PM on Friday, April 16.

All assignments are due at times and dates indicated above. Late projects will receive a reduction in grade. There will be no extensions without prior, written, consent of the instructor. The proposal represents 50% of the final grade.
