College Program
Welcome college program applicants! Current or incoming college students may
enter NROTC through the college program at any point prior to the beginning
of your sophomore year. Students accepted into the college program then
compete for and frequently receive either two or three-year scholarships.
If you have not already done so, contact
the recruiting officer to set up an appointment. At this initial meeting,
we will determine what you would like to get out of the program and how
we can help you.
The following is the process for applying to the college program, including
the application you will need to complete to enter the program.
Step 1: DETERMINE YOUR ELIGIBILITY
The following eligibility requirements must be met by students applying for the
college program:
AGE:
Must be at least 17 years old by September 1 of the year starting
college and less than 21 years old on June 30 of that year. Must be
a citizen of the United States.
PHYSICAL:
Must meet the physical standards as listed in the NROTC College Scholarship
bulletin.
EDUCATION:
Must be a high school graduate or possess equivalency certificates
by August 1 of the same year entrance into the NROTC four year scholarship
is anticipated.
COLLEGE ENTRANCE:
Must have applied for and gained admission to an NROTC College. NOTE:
The application for a Naval ROTC scholarship is separate from the
application to MIT, Harvard, and Tufts. In order to attend MIT, Harvard,
and Tufts with a NROTC scholarship, both applications must be submitted
and approved.
ACADEMIC:
Must achieve qualifying scores on Scholastic Aptitude Test
(SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). All test scores must be
on the same exam.
- Navy Option minimums: SAT Verbal 530, Math 520. ACT Verbal 22, Math 22
- Marine Option minimums: SAT Verbal 480, Composite 1000. ACT Composite 45
Step 2: CONTACT THE MIT NROTC RECRUITING OFFICER
If you meet all of the eligibility requirements listed above, or if you have questions
about the requirements, contact
the MIT NROTC recuriting officer to begin the application process.
Step 3: COMPLETE THE COLLEGE PROGRAM APPLICATION
When instructed to do so by the MIT NROTC recruiting officer, complete the college
program application. The forms you will need are as follows:

Step 4: MEET WITH THE MARINE OFFICER INSTRUCTOR (MOI)
Marine option
candidates must meet with the MOI before receiving entrance to the college
program. Contact the MOI to schedule an appointment when instructed to
do so by the recruiting officer. Navy option candidates may skip this
step.
Step 5: MEET WITH THE UNIT COMMANDING OFFICER (CO)
All college program candidates must interview with the CO as the final
step of their application process. The CO will consider your application
and let you know when he has made his decision.
