Firewalls and Security

• Firewalls work on the theory that there is “safe” traffic to permit into an organization and “unsafe” traffic

• Common scenarios:

  • Only permit outgoing traffic
  • Permit limited incoming traffic, authenticated with a token card

• They work if they can keep an intruder from “touching” a vulnerable system
