An algorithm that can accurately gauge heart rate by measuring tiny head movements in video data could ultimately help diagnose cardiac disease.
MIT's United Way campaign has netted almost $110,000 from 537 donors as of Monday, meaning the Institute is at 34 percent of its goal of $322,000, reported Elizabeth Mulcahy, employee campaign coordinator.
Because some departments were late in beginning their fund-raising efforts, Ms. Mulcahy also said that the campaign would be extended until December 30. It was originally slated to run until December 7.
Campaign organizers are planning adjunct activities including a bake sale and a clothing drive during the week of December 12, with containers around campus for members of the MIT community to drop off warm clothing, bed linens, towels, etc. to be distributed by the United Way to homeless shelters and other agencies that need them, Ms. Mulcahy said.
The traditional end-of-campaign raffle will also be held. Anyone who donated to this year's campaign is automatically entered and is eligible to win donated prizes, which will include an overnight stay for two at the Inn at Harvard. There will be other prizes as well; details on these as well as further information on the bake sale and clothing drive will appear in a future issue of Tech Talk.
