John T. Chen, a graduate student in materials science and engineering from Newton, was one of eight young scientists nationwide to receive a Graduate Student Award from the Materials Research Society at its spring meeting. The students were selected for academic achievement and research of distinction.
Noyce Prize awarded
Catherine Leah Lavelle, a senior in brain and cognitive sciences from Ocean City, NJ, has received the 1996 Noyce Prize. The award, made possible by the Noyce Foundation, is awarded annually to an outstanding senior who has completed (or will complete) Massachusetts teacher certification and pursue a career in public school teaching. The award carries a prize of $10,000.
