At MIT’s ‘Innovations in Health Care’ conference, industry experts discuss how to maintain quality while reining in costs.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has been selected as one of the seven best companies for working families in Boston by The Boston Parents' Paper, Booming magazine and Local/Mom.com in conjunction with the Center for Work and Family at Boston College. The list of finalists was announced in the April issue of The Boston Parents' Paper.
"We are delighted to see MIT's support for working families acknowledged. We offer many programs and services that help parents as they juggle work/family responsibilities. More importantly, however, MIT approaches employees and faculty with an attitude of supportiveness and willingness to help them find individual solutions to their unique situations," said Laura Avakian, Vice President for Human Resources at MIT.
The group of judges sought nominations of outstanding companies through participating publications and business and professional associations. Their mission was both to reward success and to raise awareness of ways to address quality of work life issues.
"This puts the spotlight on companies to show what kind of environment they can create," said Judi Casey, director of the New England Work and Family Association (NEWFA).
"By highlighting those who are making successful efforts, this initiative can be instructive for everyone," said Linda Braun, executive director of Families First Parenting Programs and one of the judges for the Parents' Paper initiative.
The other 6 finalists are: Crittenton Hastings House, FleetBoston Financial, The John Hancock Company, The Lahey Clinic, State Street Bank, and Textron Systems. The article in the April issue of The Boston Parents' Paper describes the contest and summarizes the finalists' strengths.
