Images of the human optic nerve head. Comparison of surface appearance (left) versus three dimensional optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging requires extremely fast measurement speeds because 3D data sets are large. 3D OCT data can be processed to visualize the detailed internal structure of the retina. These technologies can detect subtle changes in the retina which indicates early stage disease before irreversible loss of vision occurs. Image courtesy / MIT Optics Group, J. Fujimoto |
