Monday, Nov. 23, marked the launch of the 2009 MIT Giving Tree, co-sponsored by the MIT Public Service Center and the Panhellenic Association. This holiday tradition brings the MIT community together to donate gifts to children and make an impact in the local Boston and Cambridge area. Each year, more than 500 MIT staff, faculty, and students provide gifts to more than 600 children affiliated with 13 local service agencies. Participants can choose specific gifts for specific children.
The MIT Giving Tree began in 1992, and over the years it has provided gifts ranging from baby teething toys, to dolls and fire trucks, to necessities such as soap, deodorant and socks for young adults.
To participate in the Giving Tree, MIT community members should stop by the MIT Public Service Center (4-104) between Nov. 23 and Dec. 14 to pick up a gift request. Participants are asked to purchase, wrap and return the gifts to 4-104 by 10 a.m. on December 15, 2009.
