Four technologies developed by winners of the IDEAS competition — along with several other innovations developed through D-Lab classes — were presented on Sept. 22 at the Science, Technology and Innovation Forum, an event focused on the use of innovative science and technology to solve development issues.

Hosted by USAID and the New York Academy of Sciences, the event's guests included U.N. delegates, government officials, foundation representatives and NGO leaders. In addition to table-top displays, presenters had the opportunity to give one-minute pitches on their work. MIT's young innovators showed how the Institute is working on the current development challenges.

My dream project (IDEA) would be able to put together a team that can work on finding innovative and cost effective construction technologies (including construction materials), build model houses and make housing affordable to common man in developing countries like India.

India has over a billion people but the home ownership rate is too low. The real estate prices are skyrocketing which is alarming for prospective middle and lower class dreamers.

If there is a way to find out the cheapest construction techniques (with minimum profit margin for the builders), I would be interested in supporting it.
