Robert Morris, a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, has been awarded the 2010 Mark Weiser Award by the Association for Computing Machinery’s Special Interest Group on Operating Systems (ACM SIGOPS).
The award is named in honor of Mark Weiser, a computing visionary recognized for his research accomplishments during his career at Xerox PARC. It is given to an individual who has demonstrated creativity and innovation in operating-systems research. The recipient must have begun his or her career no earlier than 20 years prior to nomination.
Morris is known for his many contributions to computer-network architectures and computer-systems research, including innovations such as distributed hash tables and wireless mesh networks. EECS Head Eric Grimson said the award was “very well deserved.”
