His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco discussed his new film, “Antarctica 2009: A continent in a state of alert,” at a public event on April 13 hosted by President Susan Hockfield. A long-standing advocate for environmental issues, Prince Albert spent 17 days visiting Antarctica with scientists in January 2009; he is the first sitting head of state to visit both the north and the south poles.
Price Albert made the documentary to raise awareness of scientific research in Antarctica, particularly as it relates to global climate change issues. “This is a whole continent devoted to peaceful scientific endeavors,” he said. “Hopefully we can apply its lessons to other parts of the world.”
While on campus, the prince toured the Electric Vehicle Laboratory and attended a salon hosted in his honor by the MIT Energy Initiative at the MIT Museum.
