Yingxi Lin, an assistant professor in the department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and a member of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research, has been named a winner of the 2010 John Merck Scholar award. Lin was one of three awardees to be selected this year from a national pool of 80 applicants.
Lin's four-year, $300,000 award will support research on activity-dependent regulation of inhibitory synapses and neural circuit plasticity, processes that are thought to be disrupted in a wide range of brain disorders.
The John Merck Scholars Program in the Biology of Developmental Disabilities in Children, established by the John Merck Fund in 1990, supports research into the underlying neurobiology of developmental disabilities and associated cognitive impairments.
