During his tenure as head, the department was ranked second among U.S. architecture schools’ graduate programs by Design Intelligence magazine.
Under Chang’s administration, the MArch and SMVisS programs both underwent a period of expansion –—and with that, an expansion of opportunities made possible by the larger numbers — and the core design curriculum was revised to feature three core studios and three option studios, plus thesis; the various discipline groups were also integrated more fully into the curriculum through the co-teaching of studios.
