The Coriolis Effect

When seen from a rotating frame of reference, an object moving in a straight line (as with a missile in the sky) appears to follow a curved path. This is the Coriolis Effect, which the MIT Physics Department's Technical Services Group demonstrates with sand and a rotating table.
