Frames for living

On view in the School of Architecture + Planning’s Wolk Gallery through Dec. 28, Frames for Living explores the work of William W. Wurster (1895-1973), a pioneer of 20th century modernist architecture and one of the most influential architectural educators of the 20th century.

As dean of architecture at MIT from 1944-50, Wurster integrated architectural design with landscape design and engineering and established urban planning as a separate but allied discipline. He also championed Alvar Aalto’s Baker House for the MIT campus and hired the Bauhaus-inspired artist Gyorgy Kepes to teach visual design.
