Sappok wins 2008 SAE Excellence in Oral Presentation Award - PhD candidate in mechanical engineering Alexander Sappok, who is also a graduate research assistant at the Sloan Automotive Laboratory, has received the 2008 Society of Automotive Engineers Excellence in Oral Presentation Award. October 1, 2008

Broad Institute awarded major grant - Researchers at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard have received a five-year grant of about $15 million from NIH to map the epigenomes of a variety of medically important cell types, including human embryonic stem cells. October 1, 2008

MIT named to AARP top employer list - MIT has once again been named to AARP's list of the 50 Best Employers for Workers Over 50, a distinction the Institute has won three other times in the past five years. September 23, 2008

MIT class project gets a gold star from Google - A team of MIT students walked away from their spring-semester course with a lot more than just an A and six credits: They just won a $275,000 top prize from Google for the application they developed for the company's new open-source Android cell-phone system. MIT alums wins National Medal of Science - Leonard Kleinrock SM '59, PhD '63 and Andrew Viterbi '57, SM '57 have been selected to receive the prestigious National Medal of Science, awarded by President George W. Bush. August 27, 2008

U.S. News ranks MIT 4th overall - MIT ranks fourth among national universities and first in undergraduate engineering, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings released today. In the overall university rankings, MIT shares the number four slot with Stanford. August 22, 2008

Rafael Bras to receive AGU's Horton Medal - Professor Rafael Bras has been named this year's winner of the Robert E.
