Inaugural Group Named

Inaugural Group Named

A committee chaired by Professor Claude R. Canizares has been formed to plan the 
inauguration of MIT's 15th president, Dr. Charles M. Vest, which will take place 
on Friday, May 10, in Killian Court.

The committee is now defining the inauguration week activities and will also 
consider additional events during the spring "that focus on future directions 
for MIT," Professor Canizares said."This is a major occasion, marking an 
important point in MIT's history, and we expect to have a large number of 
visitors from across the nation and around the world," he added.

The other members of the committee, listed alphabetically, are:

Professor E. Jane Betts, associate athletic director; David S. Ferriero, 
associate director for public services, MIT Libraries; Gayle M. Fitzgerald, 
manager of conference services; Professor Ellen T. Harris, associate provost for 
the arts; William J. Hecht, executive vice president of the Alumni/ae 
Association; Stephen D. Immerman, director of special services for the office of 
the senior vice president; Professor Henry D. Jacoby, faculty chairman; Norman 
B. Leventhal, life member of the MIT Corporation; Kathryn W. Lombardi, executive 
assistant to the president and director of public relations services; Professor 
Kenneth R. Manning, head of the Writing Program; Christian J. Matthew, Alumni/ae 
Association president; Conor Moran, associate director of the campus activities 
complex; Mary L. Morrissey, director of the Information Center and Special 
Events; Professor Leo Osgood, head coach, men's basketball; Professor Martin F. 
Schlecht, head of the commencement committee; Constantine B. Simonides, vice 
president and secretary of the Corporation; and Professor Lyna L. Wiggins of the 
Department of Urban Studies and Planning.

Guest members are: Kenneth D. Campbell, News Office director; Martha R. 
Jennings, manager of the President's House; Laura B. Mersky, administrative 
assistant to the president; and Denise A. Purdie, a member of the Class of 1992.
