Three Elected to NAS, IOM Two members of the MIT faculty have been elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and a third has been elected to the Institute of Medicine. The elections were announced in Washington last week. Elected to the NAS were Professor H. Robert Horvitz of biology and Professor Patrick A. Lee of physics. Elected to the Institute was Professor Phillip A. Sharp of biology, director of the Center for Cancer Research. Professor Horvitz, a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, has made important contributions to the genetic analysis of the development of cell lineages. Professor Lee, the William and Emma Rogers Professor of Physics, is noted for his work in condensed matter theory. Professor Sharp is noted for his pioneering work that led to the discovery of surplus DNA.
