TO MEET FRIDAY Environmental Council Formed Provost Mark S. Wrighton has announced the formation of a 13-member Council on Global Environment which will coordinate MIT activities in this area and explore possible new initiatives. Professor Wrighton, who will chair the council, said its first meeting will be held Friday, Oct. 4. Members of the council come from many areas of MIT, including Lincoln Laboratory and the MIT-Woods Hole Joint Program. "The purpose of the council," Professor Wrighton said, "will be to serve as MIT's forum for discussion of issues surrounding global environment, to coordinate new initiatives, to document existing activities, and to identify new opportunities for the Institute and its faculty." The council will serve as a point of contact for people interested in what MIT is doing in the area of the environment. Council members are: Rafael L. Bras, the William E. Leonhard Professor of Engineering, civil engineering Professor Sallie W. Chisholm, director, MIT/Woods Hole Joint Program, civil engineering. Professor Nazli Choucri, assoiciate director, Technology and Development Program, political pcience. Henry D. Jacoby, William F. Pounds Professor of Management, Sloan School. Thomas H. Jordan, Robert R. Shrock Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences, head, Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences. Professor J. David Litster, associate provost and vice president for research, director, Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory. Professor David H. Marks, head, Department of Civil Engineering. Professor Ronald G. Prinn, director, Center for Global Change Science, earth, atmospheric and planetary sciences. Richard L. Schmalensee, Gordon Y Billard Professor of Management and Economics, Sloan School. Professor David H. Staelin, assistant director, Lincoln Laboratory, electrical engineering and computer science. Professor Lawrence E. Susskind, urban studies and planning. Professor Jefferson W. Tester, director, Energy Laboratory, chemical engineering. Cordelia Foell, director of academic development, Resource Development, will be a member ex officio.
