Language Center Offers Worldwide News

LLARC Offers Worldwide News
Members of the MIT community can now watch broadcast news programs from
around the world at MIT's Language Learning and Resource Center (LLARC)
in Rm 20C-130, or on MIT cable channel 13.
News programs from over 25 countries, including Holland, Czechoslovakia,
Kenya and Saudi Arabia, are broadcast daily over a 24-hour period. Other
broadcasts are available over the weekend. Many programs are live;
others are delayed by one to five days. Drop by the LLARC for a schedule
of the programs.
Last week the LLARC began recording daily videos of news programs from
China, France, Germany, Japan, the USSR and Spain. Recordings are saved
for one week before being taped over.
The new service is available through SCOLA, the non-profit Satellite
Communication for Learning channel. Broadcasts can be seen at the LLARC
or on MIT cable channel 13. The LLARC is open Monday through Thursday,
8:30am-10:30pm; Fridays from 8:30am-3pm, and Sundays from 1pm-10:30pm.
Channel 13 broadcasts the programs 24 hours a day.
